8.2 Compounds and Reactions

http://encarta.msn.com/media_461533493/Fireworks.html

INTRODUCTION

Chemical reactions are happening everywhere.  Chemical reactions in your body digest food, decay your teeth, make you grow and much more.  Chemical reactions occur in batteries to provide electricity, in the oven when you bake a cake, in your car when it burns fuel or when it rusts and whenever something is burning.  Most of the materials we use are obtained from the environment using chemistry.

In this topic we investigate some chemical reactions,  think about some of the social issues which involve chemistry and consider the source of the materials we use.  We will also improve our skills in finding information needed to solve scientific problems.   The skills you develop in this topic will help you to more successfully find the solutions to all sorts of problems.
